Heroes - Jet Li Still Not Out (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive)

According to director Zhang Yimou's assistant Hu Xiaofeng, Jet Li is not replaced by Chan Jackie. He said, they will not give up on Jet Li no matter how remote the chance is and Jackie Chan's age will prevent him from fitting into the role. Meanwhile, Leung Chiu-Wai (Tony), Maggie Cheung and Zhang Ziyi have already signed on although their roles are yet to be determined. Apparently, there are more than one heroes, Leung Chiu-Wai will play one of them and he will go to Beijing to meet Zhang Yimou by the end of June. Because Zhang Yimou is currently tied up with the final promo film for Beijing's Olympic bid, shooting will start by the end of July instead of the end of June. Two weeks ago, Zhang Yimou has visited the first candidate locations for the film, Jiu Zhai Gou (1) (2), a scenery park located in Sichuan province in the east end of the Tibetan Plateau.

A new Vietnam War film is in development. Chinese actor Hu Bing is currently in talk for a role. One of the reasons he was spotted is that he got pretty good "American accent".

Ang Lee Talks About Hulk (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive)

Ang Lee said he wanted to try different kinds of films while "(he) can still move", even some typical Hollywood big budget commercial films. About Hulk, he said the biggest challenge is not making special effect, but injecting new life to the comic and making it "artistic".

The film will be penned by David Hayter, the screenwriter of X-Men, and the special effect will be done by ILM. Originally Ang Lee wanted to make it with full CG cast, but later gave up due to technical difficulty.

After Shadow Magic, director Ann Hu is planning her next project, First Incense Burner (translation). Based on the same name novel by Chang Ai-ling (Eileen Chang), it tells a story of a 1930's Chinese schoolgirl Ge Weilong who has an unfaithful and fragile-heart husband. Ann Hu has chosen Zhang Ziyi to play the young girl and Jiang Wen to play her husband. The film will be shot in Qingdao (Tsin Tao) where has many European style buildings left from the German colonial age.

Shooting of the John Woo's unnamed project will start in February or March next year. The cast will include Chow Yun Fat. Some report has suggested that Tom Hank is currently in talk for a leading role in the film. Talking about the story of railroad constructors in the 19th century America. Both leading roles will be railroad constructors, one from China and one from Ireland. According to some early report, Russell Crowe once was interested in the role.

Shooting of Jackie Chan's newest film Highbinders will start next month in Ireland. Packaged as a "Hong Kong Made Foreign Film", it will be produced by Hong Kong's Emperor Group with Sammo Hung as the action choreographer. Jackie Chan will play a police officer and will be kill on duty in the beginning of the film. May CG effects will be required. While a promotional teaser has been shot, they are still looking for the female lead. Possible candidates include Kate Winslet, Kate Bechinsale and Sophie Marceau. In addition, the director is looking for a six or seven year old boy who can speak mandarin Chinese and can swim.
