October 12, 2003 |
Filming of 2046 will not restart until, at least, next year. someone from Shanghai Film Studio told Chinese paper Shenyang Today a few days ago. Last part of the film, the climax, will be shot in Shanghai with assistance from the studio. However, stars of the huge cast and crew do not share the same schedule and gathering them together at one place to do one thing is somewhat impossible, at least for the rest of the year. Wong Kar-Wai is currently in Shanghai working on the post-production of his one third of Eros and the pre-production of Subway (literal) he produced. Leung Chiu-Wai has committed to Infernal Affairs III and Subway; Zhang Ziyi is doing Shi Mian Mai Fu in Ukraine; and Lau Kar-ling is connected to Seven Years Itch...
Born in Shanghai and moved to Hong Kong at five, Wong Kar-Wai planned to place the story of In The Mood For Love in his birthplace. But failing to get the permission to shoot in the city forced he to move both the story setting and the location to Hong Kong. We still know nothing about the plot of 2046. However, it is closely associated to In The Mood For Love. 2046 is in fact the number of the room at which the two lovers meet in In The Mood For Love.

But now the plot has been changed to a guy from present day traveling back to ancient time. Title of the project has also been changed from Titanium Rain to the current one. Also changed, The production is currently in halt and no one is cast except Jackie Chan, but director Stanley Tong has been working on the pre-production for a while. John Woo Eyes On Action-Musical TALE OF CHRIS DAMON (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive) |
October 4, 2003 |
According to an unknown source, director John Woo is planning to make his first musical called Tale Of Chris Damon (?). He said the story is about a guy called Chris Damon in the 1930's America. He was a pocket-picker with a dream of being a member of the crime family. He had to take care of his big brother who was suffering from pneumonia. He was in love with a dance teacher and had an affair with the mistress of a crime boss. Woo said he was not confidence about handling musicals before, but after Dancer In The Dark, Moulin Rouge! and Chicago, Warner Brothers was finally ready to give me money to make one. It will have singing, dancing and action with a blend of love, romance and gang violence. He said if he was making a Chinese language film, Chow Yun-Fat would be the first choice. But because it was a Hollywood production, they were still doing the casting. Woo said musicals were his favorite since childhood. When he was a young boy, he once sneaked into a movie theater to watch a musical and was discovered by the staff. He was slapped, rolled downstairs and broke his head. He cried and finished the movie by hiding behind a door. In middle school, Woo even taught dance to other students. He was once troubled with stammer and used dance to express his thoughts. A teacher told him he was talented for dance. "People often say my movies blend dance into violence," said Woo himself. |

Quentin Tarantino Wants To Remake THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN With Shaw Brothers (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive) |

October 1, 2003 |
According to Hong Kong paper Oriental Daily, Quentin Tarantino is thinking about doing a remake of The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, one of his favorite Shaw Brothers' classics. He even hired its leading man Liu Chia-Hui to play two characters in Kill Bill Vol.1/2 - Chinese kung-fu Master Pai Mei (White Eyebrows) and the head of Japanese yakuza "Crazy 88" fighter. According to the paper, Shaw Brothers has asked Quentin to do the remake and he has agreed. But it would not be possible until 2006 according to his schedule. In an interview Quentin did over a year ago in Beijing, he said he would like to do a Chinese kung-fu film. He said, "I have that thought all the time, but not this one (Kill Bill). I think I will make one in the future. Certainly will be shot in China but in American way and with Chinese American as the leads. That’s because it’s impossible to blend Hong Kong actors and (mainland) Chinese actors into the whole movie. Chinese Americans are still Americans. By this way, all characters will speak the same language with the same accent. I want to shoot something of my own."
