Yoko, a single free-lance writer is pregnant. She wants keep the baby and her decision has made her parents worried. An antique book store owner Hajime loves her but is too shy to speak out. Day by day, Yoko is thinking about her parents, things with Hajime and her unborn baby... To celebrate the birth centennial of  late Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu, Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien wrote and directed this film with a Japanese cast and financed by Japanese studio Shochiku.
