Love in a Puff is the only Chinese language film released this week. From Hong Kong director Pang Ho-Cheung, the comedy tells how a man and a women falls in love while enjoying smoking together on the back of their office tower and during the hunt for low tax cigarettes.

Winners' names were announced last night in Hong Kong during a grand ceremony. South Korean drama Mother collected three awards, including Best Film, Best Actress (Kim Hye-ja) and Best Screenplay (Park Eun-kyo, Bong Joon-ho). It tells a story of a mother desperately searching for the killer of a girl when her young son is charged for the murder.

 

Chinese director Lu Chuan was awarded for his WWII Nanking Massacre project City of Life and Death, which also won Best Cinematography (Cao Yu).

 

Two best actor awards went to Hong Kong and mainland China jointly produced semi-historical thriller Bodyguards and Assassins. Chinese actor Wang Xueqi won Best Actor title for playing a wealthy business man, who is supporting the revolution financially while banning his own son from joining the revolution. Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse was named Best Supporting Actor for playing a young rickshaw-puller, who is willing to protect a revolutionary leader he barely knows.

 

The awards of Best Supporting Actress and Best New Performer were given to Malaysian, Hong Kong and South Korean co-production At the End of Daybreak, about a young man trying to escape the burden of his alcoholic mother, developed an illicit online relationship with an under-aged school girl. Hong Kong actress Kara Hui was named the Best Supporting Actress for playing the alcoholic mother, and first-time Malaysian actress Ng Menghui was granted the Best New Performance title for playing the school girl.

 

Chinese director Zhang Yimou was honored for his Outstanding Contribution to Asian Cinema and Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Hong Kong director John Woo was also awarded for directed the top grossing Asian film last year, Red Cliff, one film and two films, depending on which part of the world it was released.
