ZU And SPY Will Skip Theaters (UpComingMovies.COM)
May 19, 2002

After pushing theatrical release twice and one disaster screen test, Miramax is no long planning to show THE LEGEND OF ZU, renamed as ZU WARRIORS by Miramax, on the big screen in North America. According to Upcomingmovies.com, it will likely go straight to video sometime this year. Jackie Chan's THE ACCIDENTAL SPY, which was made in 2000, will also skip theaters and go straight to video on August 13, 2002. Both of them are Miramax's re-edited versions of the original.

THE LEGEND OF ZU North American Trailer (8 MB)

In the trailer produced by Miramax (b.t.w. Miramax has decided to called it ZU WARRIORS), the plot described is very misleading. The "mysterious woman" they were referring to was played by Zhang Ziyi. Her senses are  very very very limited and if remove her role completely the plot can still remain intact. Even more confusing is that some achievements of both Tsui Hark and Yuen Wo-ping were mentioned and their names were no where can be found.

Miramax Manipulating Titles Of THE LEGEND OF ZU And SHAOLIN SOCCER (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive)
January 22, 2002
Miramax, the North American distributor of both movies, has change their titles to ZU WARRIORS and KUNG FU SOCCER . Are they going to re-edit them in excuse of "meeting the taste of the American", like what they have done to dozens other Hong Kong flicks? Very inevitable! However, diehard kung-fu fans can always watch the original version now widely available on VCD and DVD. THE LEGEND OF ZU will be released in the spring and SHAOLIN SOCCER will come on April 5, which will coincide with the World Cup Football.
