According to Hong Kong media, DRUNKEN MONKEY, the latest martial-art film by Shaw Brothers, had its premiere in Hong Kong yesterday. A May 1 theatrical released in the mainland China has been cancelled due to the SARS fear and instead, the movie has been released on DVD and VCD.

Here are four videos from the newest old-school martial-art film DRUNKEN MONKEY. Too bad, they only came with Real format. Made by the legendary Shaw Brothers, it is old fashion all the way. It has been announced that the film will be released in China on May 1.

Someone from Jet Star Entertainment, which is representing the film's leading man Wu Jing, has left a massage on the forum of a Wu Jing's fan site, claiming that DRUNKEN MONKEY will be released in China this March. But according to another message supposedly from Wu Jing himself, the film has been pushed back to late April. However, according to the official website of Shanghai Film Studio, the film will be released in March for sure.
DRUNKEN MONKEY is the first old-school martial art film from Shaw Bros. in over a decade. It was directed by Lau Kar Leung and Gordon Liu, who played two roles in KILL BILL. Wu Jing is a very promising real martial-art star, who was trained by the same mater trained Jet Li.

DRUNKEN MONKEY is only the first attempt of Shaw Bros. ambitious campaign of resurrecting its old-school martial art films. It was directed by Lau Kar Leung and Gordon Liu. Wu Jing, whose coach also trained Jet Li, takes the leading role. Shooting has wrapped up this summer and it will likely be released during the coming Chinese New Year in Asia.
