Roger Ebert Praises Chen Kaige's TOGETHER (Chicago Sun-Times)

June 6, 2003

"Together" is powerful in an old-fashioned, big-studio kind of way; Hollywood once had the knack of making audience-pleasers like this, before it got too clever for its own good.

He said, "I put all my efforts on telling a  human story. There are few dramatic conflicts, but the torrent within can be transmitted out. This film will have something very cruel which happens in our life and emotions. But in the end, the tone is warm and poetic. Either way, life is beautiful, even the cruelest life." As Chen Kaige's latest work, this is a film filled with classic music and beautifully crafted scenes.
