contains a very short interview of
Klaus Badelt, the
composer of
Wu Ji / Promise.
Chan recently said he might quit doing more on-screen actions in five
years and by then he might start producing action movies, low-budget
movies and documentaries. He also wanted to create more opportunities

Jackie Chan with director Stanley Tong. (The
Hong Kong Sun) |
Stanley Tong just had a chat with a reporter from
Chinese paper Southern Daily. According to him, the story of
The Myth was something like this:
Jackie Chan plays Jack, an archeologist who
repeatedly dreams about a white dress lady played by Kim Hee-Seon. Leung
Ka-Fai plays William, a scientist who is searching for some mysterious
stone.
Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read:
William invited Jack to a place
called Emperor's Sand, where they discovered an ancient place. Inside
the place, there is a coffin floating in midair and a painting showing
that white dress lady. William removes a stone from the altar and the
coffin falls to the ground immediately. Some tomb guardians appear and
try to get the stone back. While fighting these guardians, Jack falls
down a waterfall. He is then woke up by a dancer, Princess
Samantha, played
by Mallika Sherawat. Despite her invitation, Jack decided to leave and
continue his search for that white dress lady. Jack and William then go
back to the valley of the waterfalls by helicopter and eventually
discover a time tunnel, which is connected with a floating palace. At
the palace, Jack finally meets the white dress lady. She is actually a
Koguryian princess who has been waiting for her lover, a
general of The First Emperor of China (also played by Jackie Chan) for
over two millenniums. Meanwhile William starts robbing the place and
accidentally disabled the magic which keeps the place floating...
Tong said he wrote the story of The Myth after
visiting the mausoleum of The First Emperor, which cost over 700
thousands men's 38 years to build. There will also be over 900
shots with CG effects, like the one showing thousands of terra-cotta
warriors and sea of mercury fall from the sky. Battle scenes have been
shot with about 1000 extras and over 100 horses. Over 100 thousand CG
soldiers will be added to the final film.
Graham Ware Jr.
,horse trainer for The Lord of the Rings, was on board to train
the horses, especially the one Jackie Chan was riding.

According to Variety, the production of The
Myth was temporarily on hold after "India's Directorate of
Archaeology and Museums ordered cranes and sets to be removed from
grounds of the 15th-century Virupaksha temple at Hampi." Officials
from the directorate said the production did not have permission to
shoot there. However, director Stanley Tong said "permission was
granted by the Archaeological Survey of India and the Hampi World
Heritage Site." (thanks to Patrick Y.)
According to local paper Central Chronicle,
the scenes shot at the temple was a song sequence between Jackie
Chan and Bollywood beauty Mallika Sherawat. "Films earlier shot
amidst the historical monuments of Hampi include Agni Varsha and
Amol Palekar's Marathi film Anaahat."

According to Hong Kong paper Sing Pao Daily, they played two archeologists, who were arguing about something
inside

thousands of terra-cotta figures have been unearthed and thousands
more are still waiting for excavation. The burial pits are part of
the China's
First
Emperor's mausoleum. The filming only lasted for less
than a day and it involved no actions. Jackie Chan has finished the
shooting in Shanghai and Wuxi. His next destination is Gansu

working for a whole day. He blamed it to the contact lenses, he was

Jackie Chan just talked to Fred Topel
from About.com, apparently about his current and future
projects. Besides Around The World In 80 Days, he has
commented on several projects he will do, might do and will not do.
He is in talk for doing Pink Panther but he has been lost
in endless meetings. He still don't like
Rush Hour franchise but he will do the third one - "a little bit
serious" this time. His newest project, The Myth, not related
to Titanium Rain and Time Breaker, he said, is "more like
Indiana Jones", "not very technology" and "like an old fashioned
story". In the movie, Jackie Chan's character, an archeologist, will
"find the Ching Dynasty tomb
(should be Qin or Chin Dynasty. a mistranslation)", "also help the
American NASA do something" and he will "go to India". Jackie Chan
also said he was not going to sell his New Police Story to any US
distributor, because, presumably, he was afraid that it would not be
treated properly.

About The Myth, Korean actress
Kim Hee-Sun has been cast to play the girl repeatedly showing up
in Jackie Chan's dreams and
Hugo Weaving will play the main valiant,
according to an
Korean newspaper. Title of the project is SO4 and it is budgeted at
about US$30 million. The paper said Jackie Chan would get US$15 million
(I don't think so) and Kim would get 1 million. Also according to
the Korean paper, the script is penned by
Wang Hui-Ling (Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon) and the story is somewhat based on a Korean
folklore. In the movie, Jackie Chan will play an ancient warrior and
a modern day Indiana Jones. The Hong Kong part has been done last
month and shooting will restart next month in Shanghai. Release has
been targeted at next summer in over 60 Asian and European countries
(no mention of North America).

Teaser Poster Of Jackie
Chan's TIME BREAKER
(Media
Asia Group) |
|
October 10, 2003 |
|
Hong Kong's Media Asia has put the
teaser poster of Time Break on its
official site.
It shows a warrior, fully armored, holding a sword and wearing a
watch. It is supposed to be Jackie Chan. Lower part of the poster is
the skyline of Shanghai, though not a newest skyline. Does this mean
anything? The original idea is something like Jackie Chan's
character, a Chinese warrior, chasing a Japanese samurai from
ancient time to our time. But now the plot has been changed to a guy
from present day traveling back to ancient time. Title of the
project has also been changed from Titanium Rain to the
current one. Also changed, The production is currently in halt and
no one is cast except Jackie Chan, but director
Stanley Tong has been working on
the pre-production for a while. Reportedly, Jackie Chan has learned
something from The Medallion - he asked for a rework on the
script to get more real action and less computer enhancement.

(Sci

|
August 21, 2003 |
|
According to Sci Fi Wire, Jackie Chan has
delayed the production of TIME BREAKER, formerly known as TITANIUM
RAIN, which was intended to start this summer, in order to get the
script rewritten. During an interview, Jackie Chan said, "When
I looked at the script, there were a lot of special effects. After
THE MEDALLION (which is filled with CG effects), I'm not sure
anymore, so now we change the script," and "It might not happen
until next year." According to director Stanley Tong, "this is a
film frequently shifting between the ancient time and the present
days. It will have flashback to the ancient time and will go all the
way back to Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BC)." In Hollywood, Jackie Chan
has RUSH HOUR 3 and SHANGHAI DAWN waiting for him and he has
promised to make the fifth POLICE STORY soon.

Director
Stanley Tong is currently in China

the scenes of the ancient time look beautiful, because all Jackie

Jackie Chan will be shooting his next big budget in India, making one

Also
according to Hong Kong's Sing Pao, much of the movies will be
made in India because this country is the best place for a subject
involving Buddhism. Filming will also takes place in the mainland
China and Hong Kong. I suspect the project is
TIME BREAKER, formerly known as
TITANIUM RAIN.
Shooting will start as early as August once Jackie Chan

Two Jackie Chan's Projects -
TITANIUM RAIN Renamed TIME BREAKER And SHEN XUAN QI BING Postponed
(MonkeyPeaches Exclusive)
|
|
May 7, 2003 |
|
According to
Reuters TV, Jackie Chan’s upcoming action flick TITANIUM RAIN
has been renamed TIME BREAKER and is under major plot change. “While
the original concept of TITANIUM RAIN was of a Chinese warrior who
travels through time to modern-day America,
Chan will play an intrepid adventurer a la Indiana Jones who gets
transported back to a previous life when he goes after a valuable
treasure.” John Chong, the general manager of Media Asia Films, said
"the new concept will have a lot more Chinese cultural aspects and
beliefs in it, such as the belief that our past, present and future
lives are somewhat linked." Media Asia is looking for both
international and Chinese partners on the US$40 million project.
Shooting is expected to begin in August in the cities of Xi’an,
Kunming and Beijing. But giving the circumstance of the SARS fear
factor, I really doubt about the production will go as planned.
According to
Hong Kong’s Oriental Daily, Hong Kong studio Mandarin Films,
has pushed the production of SHEN BING XUAN QI from August to
December, due to the SARS fear, of course. SHEN BING XUAN QI
(literal title: DIVINE SOLDIERS) is based on the same name comic
book series created by Hong Kong comic artist Wong Yuk-Long’s
King Comics. The story starts like this: Goddess Nü Wa created a
sacred weapon called Tian Jing (Heaven Crystal) to defeat the devil
force. Millions years later, an unearthed evil weapon Hu Po (Tiger
Soul) is about to bring chaos to the earth, and a young man named
Wen Tian starts searching for Tian Jing, the only weapon capable of
matching the power of Hu Po. In the film version, Nicolas Tse will
take the role of Wen Tian and Jackie Chan will cameo as his father.
At least one US studio is interested in partnering the project and
the budget may soar over US$10 million. However Jackie Chan’s
schedule is very tight and he may not have time for the shooting in
December.

Stanley Tong Talks About
TITANIUM RAIN And His Version Of Hua Mulan
(MonkeyPeaches Exclusive) |
|
January 14, 2003 |
|
 |
HUA MULAN
(Stanley Tong) |
Director Stanley Tong
told Hong Kong's Oriental Daily and its sister paper The
Sun that shooting of TITANIUM RAIN will start after Jackie Chan
is done with AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS. He said the pre-production
should last at least half year because it is a Jackie Chan's
movie. In TITANIUM RAIN, Jackie Chan will play a Ming Dynasty cop
traveling to the present day to capture a Japanese thief.
Production will take place in Hong Kong, the Mainland China, the US
and India.
About his version of HUA
MULAND, Stanley Tong has picked a Chinese American to play this
fictional ancient Chinese heroine. He refused to say who she was but
it was not Lucy Liu (probably not
Kelly Hu either. Could be
Vivian Wu).
Stanley Tong will fly to the US to nail the deal with her later this
month.

HUA MULAN
(Stanley Tong) |
Tianjin
Daily just had a telephone interview with Stanley Tong, who is
scouting locations for both films in Guangxi Region. He said the
script of TITANIUM RAIN still needed to be worked on and many plots
like the time-traveling would be altered. He has been thinking about
letting Jackie Chan play two characters. The film will be some kind
of comedy similar to RUMBLE IN THE BRONX and the shooting has been
pushed back to June.
It looks
like, among three MULANs, Stanley Tong's version is moving ahead of
the other two. This US$25 million English language project,
co-produced by Stanley Tong and China Film Corp., will goes into
production by the end of the coming February. He said his MULAN will
be very close to the history (though Mulan is a fictional character)
and is definitely different from CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON and
the Disney animation. About the rumor that Lucy Liu being cast for
Hua Mulan, Stanley Tong only said who would play Mulan was a secret.
If everything goes as plan, Stanley Tong will make two films
simultaneously sometime next year and he is hoping to wrap them up
by the end of 2003.
Michelle
Yoeh has postponed the production of her version of MULAN and will
play a superhero type of person in THE MASKED CRUSADER first. The
North American release of THE TOUCH has also been pushed back while
redoing some of its CG effects. A third MULAN, co-production with a
Korean studio and Shanghai Studio, has also run into some script
problem. |

Promo Poster Of Jackie
Chan's TITANIUM RAIN
(Dark
Horizons) |
|
June 28, 2002 |
|
This promo poster was shown at Cannes a
while ago and now has been posted on Dark Horizons. This movie is
written as a sci-fi action with great potential of becoming the biggest
production in Asia. The story begins when a satellite, probably contains
a lot of Titanium, crashes back to the earth. Debris of the satellite
create one or a few time holes. A Ming Dynasty warrior (or something
like that), played by Jackie Chan, traveled to present day through the
time holes. This is just a setup of the movie and no more detail of the
script has been revealed.
According to Screen Daily, shooting
will start next March and it has been aimed at a release during the
Chinese New Year of 2004. Cinematographer / director
Jingle Ma is attached
to helm the film.
