Teaser Poster Of Jackie Chan's TIME BREAKER (Media Asia Group) |
||||
|
October 10, 2003 |
||||
Hong Kong's Media Asia has put the teaser poster of Time Break on its official site. It shows a warrior, fully armored, holding a sword and wearing a watch. It is supposed to be Jackie Chan. Lower part of the poster is the skyline of Shanghai, though not a newest skyline. Does this mean anything? The original idea is something like Jackie Chan's character, a Chinese warrior, chasing a Japanese samurai from ancient time to our time. But now the plot has been changed to a guy from present day traveling back to ancient time. Title of the project has also been changed from Titanium Rain to the current one. Also changed, The production is currently in halt and no one is cast except Jackie Chan, but director Stanley Tong has been working on the pre-production for a while. Reportedly, Jackie Chan has learned something from The Medallion - he asked for a rework on the script to get more real action and less computer enhancement. |

|
|
August 21, 2003 |
|
According to Sci Fi Wire, Jackie Chan has delayed the production of TIME BREAKER, formerly known as TITANIUM RAIN, which was intended to start this summer, in order to get the script rewritten. During an interview, Jackie Chan said, "When I looked at the script, there were a lot of special effects. After THE MEDALLION (which is filled with CG effects), I'm not sure anymore, so now we change the script," and "It might not happen until next year." According to director Stanley Tong, "this is a film frequently shifting between the ancient time and the present days. It will have flashback to the ancient time and will go all the way back to Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BC)." In Hollywood, Jackie Chan has RUSH HOUR 3 and SHANGHAI DAWN waiting for him and he has promised to make the fifth POLICE STORY soon. |

According to India Times, Jackie Chan will be shooting his next big budget in India, making one of his wishes come true. Mukesh Bhatt's Vishesh productions will co-produce the US$60 million project and assist the entire production in India. Locations have been chosen include West Bengal and the city of Jaipur. (Thanks to Sanjeev)
Also according to Hong Kong's Sing Pao, much of the movies will be made in India because this country is the best place for a subject involving Buddhism. Filming will also takes place in the mainland China and Hong Kong. I suspect the project is TIME BREAKER, formerly known as TITANIUM RAIN. Shooting will start as early as August once Jackie Chan is done with AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS. According to Reuters TV, Jackie Chan "will play an intrepid adventurer a la Indiana Jones who gets transported back to a previous life when he goes after a valuable treasure." |

Two Jackie Chan's Projects - TITANIUM RAIN Renamed TIME BREAKER And SHEN XUAN QI BING Postponed (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive) |
||||

May 7, 2003 |

According to Reuters TV, Jackie Chan’s upcoming action flick TITANIUM RAIN has been renamed TIME BREAKER and is under major plot change. “While the original concept of TITANIUM RAIN was of a Chinese warrior who travels through time to modern-day America, Chan will play an intrepid adventurer a la Indiana Jones who gets transported back to a previous life when he goes after a valuable treasure.” John Chong, the general manager of Media Asia Films, said "the new concept will have a lot more Chinese cultural aspects and beliefs in it, such as the belief that our past, present and future lives are somewhat linked." Media Asia is looking for both international and Chinese partners on the US$40 million project. Shooting is expected to begin in August in the cities of Xi’an, Kunming and Beijing. But giving the circumstance of the SARS fear factor, I really doubt about the production will go as planned. According to Hong Kong’s Oriental Daily, Hong Kong studio Mandarin Films, has pushed the production of SHEN BING XUAN QI from August to December, due to the SARS fear, of course. SHEN BING XUAN QI (literal title: DIVINE SOLDIERS) is based on the same name comic book series created by Hong Kong comic artist Wong Yuk-Long’s King Comics. The story starts like this: Goddess Nü Wa created a sacred weapon called Tian Jing (Heaven Crystal) to defeat the devil force. Millions years later, an unearthed evil weapon Hu Po (Tiger Soul) is about to bring chaos to the earth, and a young man named Wen Tian starts searching for Tian Jing, the only weapon capable of matching the power of Hu Po. In the film version, Nicolas Tse will take the role of Wen Tian and Jackie Chan will cameo as his father. At least one US studio is interested in partnering the project and the budget may soar over US$10 million. However Jackie Chan’s schedule is very tight and he may not have time for the shooting in December. | Stanley Tong Talks About TITANIUM RAIN And His Version Of Hua Mulan (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive) | ||||
|
January 14, 2003 |
||||
Director Stanley Tong told Hong Kong's Oriental Daily and its sister paper The Sun that shooting of TITANIUM RAIN will start after Jackie Chan is done with AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS. He said the pre-production should last at least half year because it is a Jackie Chan's movie. In TITANIUM RAIN, Jackie Chan will play a Ming Dynasty cop traveling to the present day to capture a Japanese thief. Production will take place in Hong Kong, the Mainland China, the US and India.
About his version of HUA MULAND, Stanley Tong has picked a Chinese American to play this fictional ancient Chinese heroine. He refused to say who she was but it was not Lucy Liu (probably not Kelly Hu either. Could be Vivian Wu). Stanley Tong will fly to the US to nail the deal with her later this month. |

| Stanley Tong: HUA MULAN In February And TITANIUM RAIN In June (MonkeyPeaches Exclusive) | ||
| November 30, 2002 | ||
Tianjin Daily just had a telephone interview with Stanley Tong, who is scouting locations for both films in Guangxi Region. He said the script of TITANIUM RAIN still needed to be worked on and many plots like the time-traveling would be altered. He has been thinking about letting Jackie Chan play two characters. The film will be some kind of comedy similar to RUMBLE IN THE BRONX and the shooting has been pushed back to June.
It looks like, among three MULANs, Stanley Tong's version is moving ahead of the other two. This US$25 million English language project, co-produced by Stanley Tong and China Film Corp., will goes into production by the end of the coming February. He said his MULAN will be very close to the history (though Mulan is a fictional character) and is definitely different from CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON and the Disney animation. About the rumor that Lucy Liu being cast for Hua Mulan, Stanley Tong only said who would play Mulan was a secret. If everything goes as plan, Stanley Tong will make two films simultaneously sometime next year and he is hoping to wrap them up by the end of 2003.
Michelle Yoeh has postponed the production of her version of MULAN and will play a superhero type of person in THE MASKED CRUSADER first. The North American release of THE TOUCH has also been pushed back while redoing some of its CG effects. A third MULAN, co-production with a Korean studio and Shanghai Studio, has also run into some script problem. |

| Promo Poster Of Jackie Chan's TITANIUM RAIN (Dark Horizons) | |
| June 28, 2002 | |
This promo poster was shown at Cannes a while ago and now has been posted on Dark Horizons. This movie is written as a sci-fi action with great potential of becoming the biggest production in Asia. The story begins when a satellite, probably contains a lot of Titanium, crashes back to the earth. Debris of the satellite create one or a few time holes. A Ming Dynasty warrior (or something like that), played by Jackie Chan, traveled to present day through the time holes. This is just a setup of the movie and no more detail of the script has been revealed.
According to Screen Daily, shooting will start next March and it has been aimed at a release during the Chinese New Year of 2004. Cinematographer / director Jingle Ma is attached to helm the film. |
